Pacifier use?

couple of weeks back i gave my son pacifier as i was trying that we skip his night feed, coz of that he now asks for either bottle or pacifier in his mouth all the time and im now trying that he stops using the pacifier so when he cries for the pacifier i let him cry. he keeps crying for ten to twenty minutes and after getting tired stops crying and starts playing by himself but this routine happens daily do you think im doing right in letting him cry and not giving him the pacifier.
